RE-ENVISIONING A MID-CENTURY SITE
Building One and Building Four at the Morris Moor precinct in Moorabbin, function as re-imagined commercial spaces of the Phillip Morris cigarette factory buildings. With the conversion of eight former warehouses into premium showroom, office, hospitality, co-working and co-warehousing spaces it marks the next chapter for the re-invisioning of the site.
Representing one of the early stages of our involvement on the architectural vision of the project, our work included the concept design and direction for the northern exterior of Building One. Introducing a black steel framework over the entirety of its northern aspect, and a black mesh skin on the southern side, the design provides translucency and a sympathetic addition to the original mid-century site. Design development and documentation was further carried out by Genton Architects.
Building Four included new interior hallway designs connecting tenancies to the Morris Moor lifestyle precinct, with a monochromatic pallet of colour, and textural finishes combining polished concrete floors, textured walls and illuminated ceilings as well as signage integration for wayfinding. The exterior of Building Four was also further resolved with extruded entry portals, elevating the street presence and visibility of the new showrooms on Cochranes road.
